The Ruling on Consistently Reciting the Short Surahs of al-Mufassal in the Maghrib Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first message in this episode is a letter sent to the program from the West Bank in occupied Palestine. It was sent by one of the female listeners from there, identified as (A. M. al-Khatib). Our sister has a collection of questions, one of which says: Sayyid Sabiq mentioned that consistently reciting the short surahs of al-Mufassal in the Maghrib prayer, always, was the practice of Marwan ibn al-Hakam, which is contrary to the Sunnah. This is the opposite of what al-Nawawi mentioned, who stated that this is the Sunnah. What is the correct view?
Answer: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon His Messenger, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance.
As for what follows, the correct view is what Sayyid Sabiq mentioned; because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not consistently recite the short surahs of al-Mufassal. Rather, sometimes he would recite from the short surahs of al-Mufassal, sometimes from the long surahs of al-Mufassal, and sometimes from other surahs not from al-Mufassal. So it is better for the imam in the Maghrib prayer to recite sometimes this and sometimes that, following the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He should not stick to al-Mufassal, nor stick to the long surahs of al-Mufassal, nor to the medium ones, but rather sometimes one and sometimes the other, emulating the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in this. It is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he used to recite the short surahs of al-Mufassal in the Maghrib. It is also established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he recited al-Mursalat in it near the end of his life, and it is not from the short surahs of al-Mufassal, but rather from the long ones. He also recited al-Tur in it, which is also from the long surahs of al-Mufassal, and he recited al-A'raf in it, dividing it between the two rak'ahs, and it is a long surah.
Thus, it is known that the Sunnah is to recite sometimes the short surahs and sometimes others, so a specific state is not obligatory. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
