Q: Please explain to me how a woman should wash her hair during the full ritual bath for major ritual impurity
Is it obligatory to wash all of the hair, or only part of it? And is it necessary to wet the scalp where the hair grows? But sometimes I feel pain when I wet my entire head .
A : It is obligatory for a woman, when performing the full ritual bath for menstruation, post-natal bleeding, or major ritual impurity, to wash her entire head by pouring water over it and wetting the roots if the hair is braided at the time of the bath for menstruation, post-natal bleeding, or major ritual impurity, and it is not necessary to undo the braids;Mishkat al-Masabih 438 narrated by Muslim . However, it is recommended to undo the braids in the bath for menstruation and post-natal bleeding if the hair is braided, and to wash it with water and suds; due to other authentic hadiths regarding this. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

Umm Salama said she told God’s messenger that she kept her hair closely plaited, and asked whether she should undo it when washing after sexual defilement. He replied, “No, it is enough for you to throw three handfuls over your head, then pour water over yourself, and you will be purified.” Muslim transmitted it.
