The first question of Fatwa No. ( 20619 )
Q1: In the land of Bani Malik in the south of the Kingdom, we have some people, especially the elderly, who claim affiliation with or follow the Zaydi school of jurisprudence. They learn this school, which they call by that name, from people who call themselves "al-Sadah" (the Noble Ones) or "al-Sayyid" (the Noble One), and they claim to be of the lineage of al-Hasan or al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them both and with all the Companions). These al-Sadah impose their respect upon the sons of the tribes, and they do not marry their daughters—meaning the daughters of the al-Sadah—to the sons of the tribes; because they claim this is forbidden. However, the al-Sadah are permitted to marry the sons of the tribes. Your Eminence, these al-Sadah teachers of this school, and the people who follow them, have some deviations in religion and belief, including deviations in wudu'. When washing the face, they say: "O Allah, whiten my face on the Day when faces are whitened, and do not blacken it on the Day when faces are blackened." When washing the hands, they say: "O Allah, give me my book in my right hand, joyful and happy, and do not give me my book in my left hand,
ignorant and deluded. When wiping the head, they say: "O Allah, let the reward of this water cover me, and I fear Your punishment and the punishment of those who do not revere You." They also add wiping the neck, saying: "O Allah, free this neck from the Fire." When washing the feet, they say: "O Allah, make my feet and my parents' feet firm on the straight path."
A1: Nothing is said as dhikr during wudu' or in its course except what has been reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). This includes saying "Bismillah" (In the name of Allah) at the beginning, and saying after completing it: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger. O Allah, make me among those who repent, and make me among those who purify themselves." And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
