The questioner : The second question: You say that when you sleep at night, you always see frightening dreams in your sleep, and many things happen, such as miracles and supernatural events, which makes you always anxious and fearful. What do you advise me to do or say when going to sleep so that these disturbing dreams will disappear from me?
The Shaykh : Read Ayat al-Kursi when you go to sleep, which is the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Baqarah 2:255] This verse is at the beginning of the third part of Surat al-Baqarah. Whoever reads it in the night will have a protector from Allah over him, and no Shaytan will approach him until he becomes morning. Also, read Surat [Al-Ikhlas 112:1], Surat [Al-Falaq 113:1], and Surat [An-Nas 114:1].
The cure for these disturbing, frightening dreams that you see is what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) guided to: seek refuge in Allah from the evil of Shaytan and from the evil of what you saw, and do not tell anyone about it, for that will not harm you. Then, if you wake up during the night from these dreams, spit dryly to your left three times, seek refuge in Allah from the evil of Shaytan and from the evil of what you saw, and then turn over to the other side. If you were sleeping on your right side, sleep on your left side, and vice versa. Also, get up, remember Allah, perform wudu, and pray as much as Allah wills. All of this repels these disliked dreams.
The questioner : Yes.
The Shaykh : It is also necessary for one who sees a disliked dream to seek refuge in Allah from the evil of Shaytan and from the evil of what he saw, not to tell anyone about it, and to turn away from it with his heart and mind and not mention it, for that will not harm him, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us.
The questioner : O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad. May Allah reward you with good.
The Shaykh : Read Ayat al-Kursi when you go to sleep, which is the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
