The fifth question of the fatwa number ( 20914 )
Q 5: A woman underwent surgery, and after the surgery she was unable to perform wudu' due to the severity of her illness, or even to perform tayammum, because her clothes were not clean. Three days passed during which she did not perform the obligatory prayer. What should she do? Does she have to make up the prayers after more than a month has passed since she left them? And is there any sin on her for that? Please issue a ruling for us, may Allah reward you with good.
A5 : The principle is that the prayer does not drop from a Muslim as long as his mind is present in any state. It was obligatory for the woman mentioned to pray according to her condition, even if she did not perform wudu' due to illness, or if she was unable to perform tayammum. If there was ritual impurity on her body or on her clothing that she was unable to remove or wash, this is based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Baqarah 2:286] , and His saying: [At-Taghabun 64:16] . She should pray standing if she is able to stand, otherwise she should pray while sitting. If she is unable to sit, she should pray on her side, or lying on her back if she is unable to lie on her side;
based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:[At-Taghabun 64:16] , and His saying: [Al-Baqarah 2:286] , and the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to the sick person: Sunan Abi Dawud 952Sahih (Al-Albani) , and in another narration: . Based on this, it is obligatory for this woman to make up the prayers she left in order, so she makes up the prayers of the first day, starting with the first obligatory prayer she left, and so on until she finishes making them up. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
