Ruling on making up the prayer for one who left it due to illness

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
After this, a message was sent by a listener who says: Your brother Ahmad al-Zayn, our brother Ahmad says: I have been ill in bed for a period of time—may Allah prolong your health—do I have to make up the prayers that I missed previously? Since I do not know when the cure will come, that is in the knowledge of Allah?

Answer:
May Allah heal you and grant you well-being, and we ask Allah for healing and well-being for us and for you.
And it is obligatory for you to pray during your illness, and to perform the ablution according to the Shari'ah; if you are unable, you perform dry ablution with clean earth and you pray every prayer in its time, and if you combine the midday and afternoon prayers, and the sunset and night prayers, there is nothing wrong with it. This is what is obligatory for you.
And if you have left something, you must make it up. If you have left any of the five prayers, you must make it up along with repentance, seeking forgiveness, and regret. These are great matters, and the prayer is the pillar of Islam, and intentionally leaving it is disbelief. So it is obligatory for you to be cautious and not be lax. You pray the prayer at its time, even if it is by combining the sunset and night prayers, and the midday and afternoon prayers. And if you are unable to use water, you perform dry ablution; if you can use water, then use water.
So the point is that it is obligatory for you to pray as Allah has prescribed. Your Lord says:
So fear Allah as much as you are ableفَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ..
[Surat al-Taghabun: 16], so you must pray according to your ability: standing if you can, sitting if you cannot stand, and if you are unable to sit, you pray on your side. If you are unable to lie on your side, you pray lying on your back. You recite and intend the actions of the prayer with your heart according to your ability. It is not permissible for you to leave the prayer. So if you have left any of them thinking that it is permissible, you must make it up. You must make it up.
But if you intentionally left it out of laxity, you must repent and there is no making up. You must repent to Allah, feel regret, cease, and not return to this thing, and there is no making up for you. If you do make it up, there is no blame on you; because some of the scholars held that you must make it up and that you do not become a disbeliever except by denying the obligation.
But the correct view is that one who leaves the prayer, even if he does not deny the obligation, becomes a disbeliever, and there is no making up for him, and he must repent.
