An elderly person who is unable to fast or perform wudu'

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 14449 )
Q: I have a father who is advanced in age and is unable to stand up unless I help him. The blessed month of Ramadan of the current year, 1411 AH, has come upon him, and he was unable to fast this month. He also prays most of the prayers using tayammum (dry ablution with clean earth) because he is unable to perform wudu' (the ablution for prayer), and he performs them either sitting or
on his side. What is the ruling regarding what was mentioned above?

A: First: If your father is unable to fast due to his old age, he must feed a poor person for each day, the amount being half a sa' of dates, wheat, or the like of the local staple food. Second: If your father is unable to use water due to incapacity, such that he cannot obtain it and finds no one to help him, then it is permissible for him to perform tayammum, and to pray according to his ability; standing, and if he cannot, then sitting. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
