Prayer Behind One Who Holds Beliefs of Associating Partners with Allah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 17788 )
Q 1: We were sitting in the mosque when a man entered and asked about the location of a sorceress. We forbade him from engaging in these matters, which are superstitions. Then the imam of the mosque entered, took the man by the hand, and said to him, "Leave these people alone; they know nothing. Go and look for a sorcerer." He also said, "I will cause it for you, O servant, and I will help you." What is your ruling regarding this imam?
A 1 : One who considers sorcery, magic, and fortune-telling permissible is not to be followed in prayer; because he is considered an apostate from the religion of Islam, and the prayer of an apostate is not valid. This is based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
But if they had associated others with Allah, then worthless for them would be whatever they were doing.وَلَوْ أَشْرَكُوا لَحَبِطَ عَنْهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ
[Al-An'am 6:88]
, and magic, sorcery, and fortune-telling are shirk (associating partners with Allah); because they involve seeking aid from other than Allah, such as the jinn and Shayatins. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
