The Ruling on Praying Behind a Sorcerer and One Who Practices Sorcery

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He says: They have an imam of the mosque who engages in acts of deception and sorcery, and in undoing such works. Is it permissible to pray behind him?

Answer:
This requires a detailed explanation: If he engages in matters of disbelief, such as sorcery, calling upon the jinn, or seeking aid from them, this is major shirk (associating partners with Allah), and one does not pray behind him. However, if it involves other matters that do not amount to major shirk, then the prayer behind him is valid. For example, some people engage in ... hanging amulets containing Qur'anic verses ... there is a doubt regarding this, and although it is not permissible, it does not invalidate the prayer behind him.
As for when he is accused of shirk or disbelief, such as seeking aid from the jinn, writing amulets containing shirk that involve calling upon other than Allah, containing shirk with Allah, or containing reliance on sorcerers, or believing that sorcerers know the unseen, or serving sorcerers by calling upon the jinn and seeking aid from them, and the like of that.
The point is: If he engages in sorcery, or seeking aid from the jinn, and the like of that, this is major kufr (disbelief). We ask Allah for safety.

The presenter : We ask Allah for safety and well-being. May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
