Fatwa number ( 20338 )
Q: Some of our brothers among the students of knowledge have issued a ruling that the standing of the deceased's family in a row to receive condolences from the mourners in the cemetery after the burial is completed is an innovated religious innovation, and they consider this manner forbidden; because, according to them, it conforms to what is done by the Christians . Knowing that I have not come across a text that affirms or denies this, I thought it best to write to your eminence to know the correct answer regarding this issue. May Allah guide you to what He loves and is pleased with, and may Allah reward you with all good and benefit the Muslims through you. And peace be upon you.
A : It is permissible for the deceased's family to receive condolences from the mourners in the cemetery before or after the burial. If the deceased's family stands in a row in the cemetery or elsewhere during the condolence, so that it is easier for the mourners and more convenient for them in offering their condolences to all of them, there is nothing wrong with it and no harm in it, as far as we know, if Allah wills.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
