Q4: If you have not prayed over any of the deceased, and he has been buried while you did not know him, is it permissible to pray over him in the cemetery? Is it the same as praying over him in the mosque? And when you visit one of your deceased relatives, what is the prescribed supplication for him, and what is its manner at the grave?
A4: It is permissible for a man to pray the funeral prayer over a Muslim who has been recently buried, if he has not prayed over him before, even if he did not know him; for what is in the two Sahihs from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said: , and it is recommended to visit the graves of relatives and others for the sake of taking a lesson and remembering the Hereafter, and to make supplication for the deceased, and to say what was narrated by Ahmad and Muslim and Ibn Majah , from Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: Mishkat al-Masabih 1764 And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
