Cutting a woman's hair during the ritual bath
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 20344 )
Q 2: I performed the washing of the funeral of an elderly woman, and her hair was tangled with itself. A woman who was with me at the time told me: "A woman's hair is braided." So I tried to untangle this deceased woman's hair to braid it into three, as that woman informed me, but to no avail; I was unable to untangle it. I then cut the ends of the tangled hair until I was able to braid that deceased woman's hair into three, according to that woman's fatwa. Do I have a sin upon me or an expiation?
A 2: If the situation is as you described, there is no sin upon you; because you did not intentionally cut the hair, rather the cutting occurred in order to braid her hair into three braids; acting in accordance with the Sunnah. Umm 'Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated, saying: "(We braided her head into three braids and placed them behind her)," meaning the daughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
