The funeral prayer is performed after one of the obligatory prayers

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 20156 )
Q: It is customary among us that the funeral prayer is performed after one of the obligatory prayers , either the midday prayer or one of the other prayer times. Is the funeral prayer permissible at times other than the prayer times? And if it is
permissible, why do we not pray over the deceased except at the prayer times?

A : The funeral prayer is prescribed at all times, whether it is after an obligatory prayer or not. However, many people have become accustomed to praying over their deceased after an obligatory prayer; to take advantage of the large congregation, and so as not to burden people by gathering at times other than the obligatory prayer times. The matter is broad in this regard. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
