Fatwa No. ( 13877 )
Praise be to Allah alone, and peace and blessings be upon the one after whom there is no prophet,
And after: The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has reviewed what was sent to His Eminence the Grand Mufti from the questioner: the Representative of Religious Affairs in al-Baha, via the Da'wah Center in al-Baha , and referred to the Committee by the General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars, with number (1796) on 27/4/1411 AH. The questioner asked a question, the text of which is: I was asked a question during my visit to the Directorate of Police in al-Baha while I was on my rounds of preaching and guidance, which stated: In these days we assign patrol officers to continuously patrol the cities, villages, and commercial areas; to protect property and maintain the security of the country, fearing mischief from those of weak character. The officers ask in this situation: what is the situation regarding the Friday prayer ? Does it become excused for them, and do they pray it as an obligatory prayer after the people leave the mosques? We request that this be submitted to the Presidency to give us the necessary fatwa in this matter so that the officers can be informed accordingly. May Allah guide you, and peace be upon you and Allah's mercy and blessings.
After studying the inquiry, the Committee answered that it is obligatory for them to perform the Friday prayer in the nearest mosque to them after the final adhan that is called when the imam enters, unless there is a danger that would compromise the task
entrusted to them for the preservation of security. In that case, there is no blame on them for leaving the Friday prayer and settling for the Zuhr prayer, in order to preserve the public interest and guard against public danger. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
