Fatwa No. ( 18081 )
It is obligatory for the Muslim to perform the five daily prayers at their times, which Allah has specified and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) clarified through his words and actions. Allah the Exalted said:
[An-Nisa 4:103] , and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: . Therefore, it is not permissible to perform a prayer outside of its time, neither before nor after it, except for those who are permitted to combine two prayers due to a valid legal excuse that allows combining; such as travel in which the prayer is shortened, or illness where leaving the combining causes hardship for the patient, and in the case of rain and mud. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “Because performing the prayer at its time is an obligation, and the time is the most emphasized of the obligations of prayer, just as fasting the month of Ramadan is obligatory at its time, and no one may delay it from its time. However, it is permissible to combine Dhuhr and Asr at 'Arafah , and Maghrib and 'Isha' at Muzdalifah by the consensus of the Muslims. Likewise, it is permissible for many scholars to combine Maghrib and 'Isha' and Dhuhr and Asr for travel, illness, and similar excuses. As for delaying the daytime prayer to the night and delaying the night prayer to the day, it is not permissible for illness, travel, any kind of occupation, or any craft, by the consensus of the scholars. Indeed, 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Combining two prayers without
an excuse is one of the major sins. This is the end of the quote from (Majmu' al-Fatawa 22 / 30 - 31). Based on this, those who rush to combine prayers merely because of the presence of clouds or light rain that does not cause hardship, or because of previous rain that did not result in mud on the roads, have made a great error, and the prayer they combined with the previous one is not valid; because they combined without an excuse and prayed the prayer before its time entered. Also, it is not permissible to combine Jumu'ah and Asr; because that was not transmitted from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or from his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them); and because Jumu'ah is not of the same kind as Asr. Therefore, whoever combines Jumu'ah and Asr must repeat the Asr prayer; because he prayed it before its time without a valid legal justification. And may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
