The first question of Fatwa No. ( 20019 )
Q 1: We sometimes travel on Friday morning; should we pray it as Zuhr combined with 'Asr ?
A 1: If one travels on Friday before the sun passes its zenith, he should pray Zuhr, combining it with the 'Asr prayer either by advancing 'Asr to be prayed with Zuhr or by delaying Zuhr to be prayed with 'Asr, whichever is more convenient for him, while shortening both prayers to two rak'ahs each. If there is a town on his route where he can pray Jumu'ah, and he prays it with them, that is better; however, he should not combine 'Asr with it, but rather delay 'Asr until its time enters, and then pray it. If the sun passes its zenith and he has not yet begun his journey, it is obligatory for him to pray Jumu'ah before traveling. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
