The Delay of Student Supervisors in Joining the Congregation

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 20744 )
Q: We are at Abd al-Rahman al-Ghafiqi Secondary School in Jeddah , and we perform the midday prayer in congregation with our students, praise be to Allah. However, we suffer from the problem of supervising the students due to their large numbers. Sometimes we miss some of the units of the prayer, and sometimes our supervision is not as it should be, because we try to catch up with the congregation while a group of students remains behind in the prayer. We have suggested, O Your Eminence, that there be a first congregation that prays before the students to take over the process of supervising the students during the prayer, but we do not know whether our doing this is in accordance with the Shari'ah rulings and whether we will receive reward for it, or the opposite ? In order to reassure our hearts, we submit this letter to Your Eminence for a ruling, knowing that we hope from Your Eminence that the response be written so that we can enable the brothers to read it, along with a word of guidance for your sons, the students. May Allah preserve you and make you beneficial to the Muslims.
A: There is no objection to having supervisors for the students so that they enter the prayer with the congregation and are disciplined in it, even if this results in the supervisors missing the beginning of the prayer; because they are performing the task of enjoining good and forbidding evil. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA): Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: "By Him in Whose Hand my soul is, I have thought of giving orders for fuel wood to be gathered, then giving orders for Salat (prayer) and having the Adhan called, then ordering a man to lead the people (in prayer), then going off to some people (men) who are not present at the prayer and burning down their houses upon them. By Him in Whose Hand my soul is, if one of them knew he would find a fat meaty bone or two fine sheep hooves he would attend the 'Isha' (evening prayer)." [Agreed upon, and the wording is that of al-Bukhari].لقد هممت أن آمر بالصلاة فتقام، ثم آمر رجلاً فيؤم الناس، ثم أخالف إلى قوم لا يشهدون الصلاة
Bulugh al-Maram 2:305
the hadith. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
