The third question of Fatwa No. ( 17671 )
Q 3: The mu'adhdhin of our mosque is an elderly man, approximately 75 years old, who smokes and shaves his beard. Is his adhan and iqamah valid and permissible or not? If it is not permissible, we ask your Eminence to direct the Ministry of Hajj, Endowments, and Islamic Affairs to take note of this. We have advised him and spoken with him, and many residents of the neighborhood have advised him, but he says, "Leave us alone to live, people." He also sells cigarettes in his shop adjacent to the mosque. May Allah guide you and us to what He loves and is pleased with.
A 3: It is obligatory for you to review the affairs of the mosques in your area
to replace the aforementioned mu'adhdhin; because he is openly committing sin, and it is feared that he will be a role model for others. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
