Q: We hope that Your Eminence will graciously issue a fatwa for us regarding the ruling on a person who was ill with an illness from which recovery is not expected, meaning that he could not distinguish between natural matters due to his advanced age, and he did not fast and did not pray for four years, which was the duration of his illness, until Allah the Mighty and Majestic took his soul. Is it possible to clarify what I can do within the scope of this matter, and what is the ruling in detail? We thank you greatly.
After the Committee studied the question, it answered that if the patient does not understand anything around him due to his old age, to the extent that he lost his memory, and he died in this state, then he owes nothing, and nothing is required of you; because his obligation was lifted
by the loss of his intellect. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
