The first question of Fatwa No. ( 15921 )
Q 1: What is the ruling for one who wakes up at the time of Fajr while in a state of major ritual impurity ? Does this person perform the full ritual bath, or what does he do? Because this person does not have access to a modern bathroom and cannot find one, as we live in a desert area where modern bathrooms are not available?
A 1 : If one wakes up at the time of Fajr while in a state of major ritual impurity, it is obligatory for him to perform the full ritual bath with water to remove the state of major ritual impurity in order to perform the Fajr prayer. The absence of a modern bathroom is not an excuse for him to leave off the bath; rather, he must conceal himself from people and perform the full ritual bath to remove the state of major ritual impurity. However, if the weather is cold and he has no means to heat the water, and he fears harm to himself if he bathes with cold water,
then he resorts to dry ablution with pure earth by striking the ground with his hands and wiping his face and palms with them, and then he prays. This is based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Ma'idah 5:6] . And based on the hadith of 'Amr ibn al-'As (may Allah be pleased with him): When he had a wet dream while traveling, he feared for himself from using water, so he performed dry ablution and led his companions in prayer. When he arrived at the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he was informed of this, and the Prophet approved his action. It is narrated from 'Amr ibn al-'As that when he was sent on the expedition of Dhat al-Salasil, he said: . It was narrated by Ahmad and Abu Dawud and al-Daraqutni
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves. But if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and do not find water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and hands with it.
I had a wet dream on a very cold night, so I feared that if I bathed, I would perish. So I performed dry ablution and then led my companions in the Fajr prayer. When we arrived at the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), they mentioned this to him. He said: "O 'Amr, did you lead your companions in prayer while in a state of major ritual impurity?" I said: "I remembered the saying of Allah the Exalted: 'And do not kill yourselves. Indeed, Allah is Merciful to you.' So I performed dry ablution and then prayed." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) laughed and said nothing.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
