Speaking of Allah’s blessings through words and deeds, including wearing fine clothing
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q2: Is it obligatory for one who has wealth and abundance in provision to wear the finest clothes and ride the finest mount in accordance with the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2819Sahih (Darussalam) What is the meaning of this hadith and what is its authenticity?
A2: If Allah has expanded a person’s provision, let him display Allah’s blessing upon him by showing adornment in his clothing, thereby speaking of Allah’s blessing, not by being arrogant toward others or proud of it, and by being generous in acts of righteousness, such as maintaining ties with relatives, feeding the hungry, freeing the captive, and the like. The scholars mentioned in their explanation of the hadith that Allah loves to see an increase in gratitude to Him the Exalted through righteous deeds, praise and remembrance of Him with what He deserves, kindness, mutual compassion, and spending from the surplus of what one has in the way of closeness to Him, as He the Exalted said:[Al-Qasas 28:77] He sees in the effect of his prosperity fine clothing, spending, and gratitude. He sees in the one whom Allah has blessed with knowledge the use of that knowledge in what He has commanded, the refinement of character, gentleness, forbearance toward the foolish, and teaching the ignorant. This applies to every blessing, even though the blessings of Allah are innumerable. The hadith was narrated by al-Tirmidhi and he graded it as good, and by al-Hakim, and it is a good hadith.
Indeed Allah loves to see the results of his favors upon His Slaves.
