The Shaykh : Then the author (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned moderation in clothing, that a person should be moderate in all his circumstances in his clothing, food, and drink, but he should not deny the blessing. Indeed, Allah the Exalted loves to see the trace of His blessing upon His servant. If He bestows a blessing upon His servant, He loves to see the trace of this blessing upon him. If it is wealth, He loves, Blessed and Exalted is He, to see the trace of this wealth upon the one upon whom Allah has bestowed it, through spending, charity, participating in doing good, beautiful and suitable clothing, and other things. If Allah bestows knowledge upon His servant, He loves to see the trace of this blessing upon him, by acting upon this knowledge in worship, good treatment, spreading the call, teaching people, and other things. Whatever blessing Allah has bestowed upon you, show Allah the Exalted the trace of this blessing upon you, for this is part of thanking for the blessing. As for the one upon whom Allah has bestowed wealth, but the trace of the blessing is not seen upon him, and he goes out among people in tattered clothing as if he were the poorest of Allah's servants, then in reality he has denied Allah's blessing upon him. How can Allah bestow wealth and good upon you, and you go out among people in clothes like those of the poor, or lower? Likewise, Allah bestows wealth upon you, then you hold back and do not spend, neither in what Allah has made obligatory upon you nor in what He has recommended for you to spend in. Allah bestows knowledge upon you, but the trace of this blessing is not seen upon you, neither by increasing worship or humility or good treatment, nor by teaching people and spreading knowledge. All of this is a type of concealing the blessing that Allah bestows upon the servant. And whenever Allah bestows a blessing upon a person, he should show the trace of this blessing upon him so that he does not deny Allah's blessing. And success is from Allah.
