Q: We are Islamic education teachers who teach the first grade of primary school. The students are six years old, and some are seven. In the Qur'an lesson, the students touch the mushaf to follow alongvisually, to accustom the students and to learn the letters of the alphabet. Is it obligatory to require them to perform wudu' for the Qur'an lesson at the beginning of the lesson, or is it only obligatory for those who have reached the age of seven? I ask for a detailed explanation of this matter, including the evidence for it. May Allah preserve you.
A : A boy who has reached the age of seven is ordered to perform wudu to touch the Mushaf, and one who is under seven is not permitted to touch the Mushaf; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Muwatta Malik 15:1 . There is no harm in writing the verses for him on a board for the purpose of teaching.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
