The Ruling on Touching the Mushaf Without Wudu

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This questioner, Muhammad Haydar from Yemen, asks: What is the ruling on reading from the Mushaf without wudu?
May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
It is obligatory to perform wudu. One who wishes to read from the Mushaf has no choice but to perform wudu; because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade touching the Qur'an except in a state of purity. Therefore, no one may read from the Mushaf except in a state of purity—on wudu.
As for reading from memory, there is no harm in reading it while in a state of minor ritual impurity. However, one in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah) may not read the Qur'an, neither from the Mushaf nor from his memory, until the person in a state of major ritual impurity performs the full ritual bath. As for minor ritual impurity, such as passing wind or urination, one may read from memory, but may not read from the Mushaf until he purifies himself.

The presenter: May Allah reward you.
