Fatwa number ( 16886 )
Q: Is it permissible to recite from the mushaf without wudu , and is it permissible to carry the mushaf without wudu, and is it permissible to search for a verse in the mushaf without wudu?
A : First: It is not permissible to touch the mushaf when reciting for one who is not in a state of wudu; due to the hadith of 'Amr ibn Hazm , which is marfu', and in it:
that no-one should touch the Qur'an unless he was pureوألا يمس القرآن إلا طاهر
Muwatta Malik 15:1
. Second: It is permissible to carry the mushaf with a cloth or the like for one who is not in a state of wudu, and it is also permissible to turn the pages of the mushaf with a stick or a sleeve or the like; because that is not touching the mushaf. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
