Q: We ask of your excellence to explain this hadith from Jabir ibn 'Utayk (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 5:1307 It was narrated by the Imam Malik and al-Nasa'i and al-Hakim . We ask of your excellence to explain the meaning of the hadith.
A: The hadith of Jabir ibn 'Utayk (may Allah be pleased with him), which is mentioned, was narrated by Malik in (al-Muwatta, number 513), and Abu Dawud number (3111), and al-Nasa'i and al-Hakim , and he graded it authentic and al-Dhahabi approved it. Its meaning is: the prohibition by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of weeping over a deceased person with weeping accompanied by something forbidden, such as wailing, raising the voice, and supplicating for calamity and destruction, and the like. This was explained by the commentators of the hadith, among them the Hafith Ibn 'Abd al-Barr in (al-Istidhkar 8 / 312), and al-Shawkani in (Nayl al-Awtar 4 / 154) and others. As for weeping without raising the voice, with tears in the eyes and sadness in the heart, the established Sunnah permits this in many hadiths before and after death. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
