The Ruling of Allah and His Messenger on Unlawful Graves That Rise Above the Ground

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 18335 )
Q: What is the ruling of Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding unlawful graves that rise above the ground and are built with red brick and reinforced concrete? What is the ruling on burying in them? They are raised by about 2 meters, and the latest innovation is the two-story grave?
A : If the situation is as described, then these graves are contrary to the guidance of the pure Shari'ah. It is obligatory for you to advise those in charge of them and alert them
to the obligation of removing what they have introduced in the graves of the Muslims, namely the raising mentioned, the brick, the concrete, and other such wrongs. You must also beware of what the Shari'ah has forbidden, such as raising graves, plastering them, and what is of the same nature as what was mentioned in the question, as well as lighting them, writing on them, placing pictures or flowers on them, and visiting them. It is obligatory to adhere to the Shari'ah guidance in this matter. If they accept the advice, praise be to Allah; otherwise, do not bury your dead in them. You must seek other graves of the Muslims that are free from these innovations and wrongs. This is because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade plastering graves, sitting on them, building on them, and writing on them. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
