The second question of Fatwa No. ( 16326 )
Q 2: In Muslim graveyards, you find plaques inscribed with the deceased's name, year or date of birth, lineage, and title. What is the ruling on this practice?
A 2 : It is not permissible to write on graves due to the prohibition of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding it, and because writing on them is a means to shirk (associating partners with Allah); for this leads to their exaltation and exaggeration in their regard, and the belief that they can benefit or harm without Allah. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
