The second question of Fatwa No. ( 18431 )
Q 2: I am a man whose hand is amputated from the elbow, and I have fitted a nylon prosthetic hand that is attached to the arm and requires effort to remove. Do I have to remove it every time for wudu' , or should I wipe over it? Please advise us, may Allah reward you.
A 2: If any part of the elbow remains on your amputated hand, then it is obligatory for you to wash it; because the elbow is obligatory to wash along with the hand, so likewise what remains
of it; due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:[At-Taghabun 64:16] , and wiping over the corresponding part of the prosthetic hand is not sufficient, unless it is difficult to remove it, in which case you wipe over it; to avoid hardship and difficulty. And if the amputation has encompassed the entire elbow, then you owe nothing; because the limb that is obligatory to wash has been completely removed. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
