Ruling on Growing the Nails
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 19771 )
Q1: What is the ruling on growing the nails ?
A1: It is not permissible to grow the nails; because this contradicts the Sunnah of fitrah to which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged, and among these is (cutting the nails). It is obligatory in trimming the nails, plucking the armpit hair, shaving the pubic hair, and trimming the beard, that nothing of this be left for more than forty nights; for what was narrated by Muslim in (his Sahih) from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: . Therefore, these women must repent to Allah and abandon this bad habit that contradicts what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded. And Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) says: [Al-Hashr 59:7] , and He says (Glorified and Exalted is He): [An-Nur 24:63] . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

And whatever the Messenger has given you - take; and what he has forbidden you - refrain from
So let those beware who dissent from the Prophet's order, lest fitnah strike them or a painful punishment.
