Q: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: " How many are there of those who recite the Qur'an, and the Qur'an curses them ". My question: I would like your Eminence to clarify this noble hadith, as I have discussed this hadith with one of the brothers, and he told me that they—meaning those referred to in this hadith—are those who pass by the verse on riba and engage in riba, and pass by the verse on parents and are undutiful to their parents, and so on. Is this the meaning, or does it include even the one who does not become humble and does not reflect on its verses and does not understand
their meaning. I would like your Eminence to clarify that.

A: This is an athar from Maymun ibn Mihran , and it is not a hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The meaning of this is a warning to the Muslim who recites the Qur'an against leaving off acting upon it. Indeed, among the servants of Allah are those who pass by what the Qur'an forbids, such as its prohibition of riba, and then they deal in riba; and its prohibition of oppression, and then they oppress; and its prohibition of backbiting, and then they fall into it; and the like of that which is in the Noble Qur'an of commands and prohibitions. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
