The hadith of my Companions is like the stars; by whichever of them you follow, you will be guided

The fourth question of the fatwa number ( 12464 )
Q 4: I have heard a hadith that is constantly repeated on the television during Ramadan 1993 CE. I had not heard this hadith before, and I did not find it in any book. Some of the brothers say that this hadith has no basis. This is its text: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ( My Companions are like the stars; by whichever of them you follow, you will be guided ). Is this hadith authentic? And if it is authentic, who are its narrators?
A 4: This hadith is fabricated. Ibn 'Abd al-Barr narrated it in (Jami' al-'Ilm) through the route of Salam ibn Sulaym, who said: Al-Harith ibn Ghusayn narrated to us from al-A'mash, from Abu Sufyan, from Jabir, and it is traced back to the Prophet. Ibn 'Abd al-Barr said: (This chain of narration does not constitute proof because Al-Harith ibn Ghusayn is unknown). However, its defect is even greater in Salam ibn Sulaym. This Salam is al-Tawil, and he is also called ibn Sulayman and ibn Sulaym. Imam Ahmad said about him: (He narrates denounced hadiths). Ibn Hibban said: (He narrates fabricated hadiths). Ibn Hazm also narrated the hadith in al-Ahkam and said: (This narration is worthless; Abu Sufyan is weak, and this Al-Harith ibn Ghusayn is Abu Wahb al-Thaqafi, and Salam ibn Sulayman narrates fabricated hadiths, and this is one of them without doubt). End of quote. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions. This hadith is fabricated.
