The Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) father on the Day of Resurrection
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q1: I attended a lesson in the Prophet’s Mosque by one of the shaykhs, and he was asked about the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) father—whether our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) would intercede for him (peace and blessings be upon him). He said, “Allah knows best,” and mentioned that the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) father was from the people of the period of ignorance (al-fatra). Is this correct? Since we know there is a hadith in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to a man: Sahih Muslim 203 .
A1: The Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) father died in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance (jahiliyyah) while he was upon the religion of the polytheists. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the other believers do not intercede for disbelievers. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Muddaththir 74:48], and He said: [Ghafir 40:18],
And He, the Exalted, said:[At-Tawbah 9:113].
Verily my father and your father are in the Fire.
إن أبي وأباك في النارA1: The Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) father died in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance (jahiliyyah) while he was upon the religion of the polytheists. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the other believers do not intercede for disbelievers. Allah the Exalted said:
So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors.
فَمَا تَنْفَعُهُمْ شَفَاعَةُ الشَّافِعِينَFor the wrongdoers there will be no devoted friend and no intercessor [who is] obeyed.
مَا لِلظَّالِمِينَ مِنْ حَمِيمٍ وَلاَ شَفِيعٍ يُطَاعُAnd He, the Exalted, said:
It is not for the Prophet and those who have believed to ask forgiveness for the polytheists, even if they were relatives, after it has become clear to them that they are companions of Hellfire.
