The second question of Fatwa number ( 16426 )
Q 2: Is it true that the people of the period of ignorance (ahl al-fatra) are saved, and that the parents of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were among the people of the period of ignorance, and that they are saved from the punishment of the Fire, and that they are in Paradise? If this is not true, what is the response? And what is the ruling of the religion regarding this statement? Please advise us, may you be rewarded.
A 2: There is scholarly disagreement regarding the people of the period of ignorance (ahl al-fatra), and the stronger view concerning them is that they will be tested on the Day of Resurrection; whoever responds to what is required of him will be saved, and whoever refuses will perish, as is established by the authentic hadith of al-Aswad ibn Sari' al-Tamimi al-Sa'di and others. As for the parents of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), they are not among the people of the period of ignorance; because the Arabs were upon the religion of Ibrahim (peace be upon him), especially in the land of Hijaz, and shirk (associating partners with Allah) only entered them later in the era of 'Amr ibn Luhay al-Khuzai' , but remnants of the religion of Ibrahim remained with them, such as Hajj and others. Therefore, they are not people of the period of ignorance, because the people of the period of ignorance refers to a people to whom the call of none of the messengers reached. It is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said to a man who asked him about his father:Sahih Muslim 203 narrated by Muslim in his (Sahih). It is also established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he sought permission from his Lord
to visit his mother's grave, and he was granted permission, and he sought permission to seek forgiveness for her, but he was not granted permission. And Allah (Mighty and Majestic) said:[At-Tawbah 9:113], and this verse was revealed concerning Abu Talib and those like him who died upon shirk (associating partners with Allah) after the call had reached them. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

Verily my father and your father are in the Fire.
إن أبي وأباك في النارto visit his mother's grave, and he was granted permission, and he sought permission to seek forgiveness for her, but he was not granted permission. And Allah (Mighty and Majestic) said:
It is not for the Prophet and those who have believed to ask forgiveness for the polytheists, even if they were relatives, after it has become clear to them that they are companions of Hellfire.
