The questioner : This is a message from the listener Ahmad Mas'ad Saleh, an Egyptian engineer working in Iraq. His message revolves around a book he read titled "The Woman and Psychological Conflict", and he has some questions about this book. In his first question, he says: "I was astray, so Allah guided me to the straight path and expanded my chest with Islam; to Him be praise and thanks. I came across a book by one of the Arab female authors titled "The Woman and Psychological Conflict", which is a method for treating those afflicted with a psychological illness. However, unfortunately, it calls for deviation and slipping into sexual desire by taking lovers and practicing everything with them as a successful treatment for her stubborn psychological condition. Is this considered a treatment as this author claims, and what is your response to her from the Islamic perspective?"
The Shaykh : This is not a treatment. Our response to her is that this is an abomination and a call to what Allah has forbidden. The one who calls for something undoubtedly loves it, finds it acceptable, and deems it permissible. Deeming fornication permissible is disbelief that expels one from the religion, because the scholars say that whoever denies the prohibition of fornication and similar apparent prohibitions on which there is consensus, and he is not ignorant of it, is judged to be a disbeliever, a disbelief that expels one from the religion. Allah the Mighty and Majestic has made clear that fornication entails two great harms: one is that it is an abomination, and an abomination is everything that sound minds find abhorrent, deny, hate, and recoil from.
The second is that it is an ugly path, meaning the disparagement and aversion from this path and way that the fornicator is upon. And if Allah has described it with this ugly attribute, then it cannot possibly be a path to reform, nor to the removal of the psychological illness, ever. On the contrary, it is a cause of psychological complexes, affliction, and evil, just as it is a cause of physical illnesses from which one may not be able to recover except through death. Such a book is not permissible to remain in the markets, nor is it permissible to be published or bought. Rather, it is obligatory to destroy it because of its call to this forbidden path.
