A person raising his hands to supplicate to Allah while the imam is delivering the second sermon

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 15996 )
Q: Is it a recommended practice (sunnah) or a religious innovation (bid'ah) for a person to raise his hands to supplicate to Allah while the imam is delivering the second sermon from the pulpit on Friday?
A: It is not prescribed for him to raise his hands during supplication in the Friday sermon, nor in the sermon for the festival, except if he is seeking rain, in which case he raises his hands during the supplication for rain. Likewise, in the sermon for the prayer for rain, it is prescribed for him to raise his hands when supplicating. Likewise, it is not prescribed for the congregation to raise their hands in the Friday sermon or the festival sermons, except if the imam seeks rain, in which case they raise their hands when the imam raises his hands during his seeking of rain in the Friday sermon or otherwise; because it is established from the hadith of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him),
That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he sought rain in the Friday sermon, raised his hands and the people raised their handsأن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم لما استسقى في خطبة الجمعة رفع يديه ورفع الناس أيديهم
, narrated by al-Bukhari in (his Sahih). And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
