Ruling on making du'a for the one who built a mosque at his own expense

The third question of Fatwa No. ( 19765 )
Q 3: What is the ruling on making du'a for the one who built a mosque at his own expense? Knowing that the imam makes du'a for him on Friday by saying: "O Allah, forgive the one who built this mosque in his name?" Hoping for your success and benefit for Islam and Muslims.
A 3: The khatib making du'a for the one who built a mosque every Friday and making that a custom is a bid'ah (religious innovation) with no basis in the Shari'ah. It was not the custom of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) or the righteous Salaf to mention a person's good deeds in public, and Allah has not commanded us to worship Him in that manner. Rather, that may lead to riya' (showing off in worship) and each tribe or faction boasting about its virtues and good deeds. There is no harm in the khatib encouraging people to build mosques and other good deeds, explaining the virtue and reward thereof with Allah, and for every person to make du'a for his brother in his absence for the good deeds he has performed. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
