Fainting during the Friday sermon
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 20094 )
Q 2: During one of the Friday prayers, while the sermon was being delivered, Allah decreed that one of the worshippers fainted in the mosque. He was very exhausted, especially since he had previously suffered a heart attack. Two of the worshippers helped him and sat him down, and asked them to take him out of the mosque because he was unable to stay and complete the prayer. When the two mentioned worshippers helped him to take him to his home or to the hospital, the preacher stopped them from doing so during the sermon. He told them: "Leave him in the mosque, and do not take him out. If Allah decrees that he dies, let him die in the mosque." The patient remained lying on his back until the prayer was completed. The question is: Is what the two mentioned worshippers did to help the patient during the sermon impermissible, and are they considered to have engaged in idle talk in their prayer ? Because we know that if one says to his companion "be silent," he has engaged in idle talk, and if one engages in idle talk, he has no Friday prayer. And is what the imam did in forbidding the help of that patient correct, or what?
What was obligatory for him, and when such a thing occurs during the Friday sermon, what must be done? Please guide us, may Allah reward you with good.
A 2: What the two mentioned men did in providing first aid to the mentioned patient is what is required. We do not see any basis for what the preacher said, and we ask Allah to forgive his mistake. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
