The ruling on one who prayed a day without ablution, unaware of his state of ritual impurity

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I prayed the midday prayer believing that I was in a state of ablution, and I did not remember that I was not in a state of ablution until the next day. What is the ruling?

Answer:
The one who prayed while believing he was in a state of ablution, then remembered a day or more later that he was not in a state of ablution; he must repeat the prayer he performed without ablution whenever he remembers, even if it is after a month, or even after more time. Whenever he remembers that he prayed the midday, afternoon, sunset, night, or dawn prayer without ablution, he must repeat that specific prayer alone. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever sleeps through a prayer or forgets it, let him pray it when he remembers it. There is no expiation for it other than that.مَن نام عن الصلاة أو نسيها فليُصلها إذا ذكرها، لا كفَّارة لها إلا ذلك
, and ritual purity is a condition for the prayer, so if he prayed without ritual purity, he must repeat it by scholarly consensus. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Salat will not be accepted without purificationلا تُقبل صلاةٌ بغير طهورٍ
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1Sahih (Darussalam)
, and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
The prayer of none amongst you would be accepted in a state of impurity until he performs ablution.لا تُقبل صلاةُ أحدكم إذا أحدث حتى يتوضَّأ
Sahih Muslim 225
