The presence of a residence under the mosque
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 19008 )
Q 1: There are two mosques in our village, located less than 200 meters apart, which has caused the congregation to split in two. One of the brothers proposed building a single mosque to accommodate the congregation in a central location in the village. Indeed, a fatwa was sought regarding the permissibility of this, and work on the mosque began. This mosque consists of: a ground floor containing restrooms and a residence for the Quran memorization teacher. An upper floor containing the mosque designated for men, with a section on one side designated as a prayer area for women. When the upper floor was completed, some students of knowledge informed us
that the presence of a residence under the mosque is not permissible, and that we must change it. We note that this residence was designated for the public benefit, its construction is complete, and it cannot be utilized for any other purpose. We ask your Eminence to kindly answer this issue, keeping in mind that we have seen many mosques that are not without residences located under them.
A 1: There is no harm in having a residence under the mosque for the Quran teacher, the mu'adhdhin, or others; because that is among the charitable facilities that the mosque needs. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
