The first question of Fatwa No. ( 19326 )
Q 1: The following hadith was reported:Sunan Abi Dawud 90Da'if (Al-Albani) . A- What is the authenticity of this hadith?
B- If the hadith is authentic, is it not contrary to the majority of the hadiths of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding prayer, specifically the imam’s supplication in the singular form, such as the opening supplication and what comes after the tashahhud?
A 1: The hadith mentioned in the question was narrated by Imam Ahmad in (Musnad 5/280), and by Abu Dawud in (Sunan, Book of Prayer, Chapter 43), and it was also narrated by al-Tirmidhi in (Jami', Book of Prayer, Chapter 148), and al-Tirmidhi said: It is a good hadith. This hadith is not contrary to what you mentioned, because the prohibition in the hadith is specific to the imam’s supplication in the witr prayer, or in times of calamity, or any supplication to which the congregation responds with "Ameen," and it does not refer to the supplication in the opening, in the bowing, or similar parts of the prayer. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
