Q: What is the authenticity of this hadith: and who narrated it?
A: This hadith is part of a hadith from 'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), and its wording is: It was narrated by al-Tabarani in (Al-Awsat), and it is a weak hadith. However, the meaning of this hadith is established in other hadiths, such as the hadith in (Sahih Muslim ) (may Allah have mercy on him) from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said... Sahih Muslim 1015 . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
Q: What is the authenticity of this hadith:
Purify your food and your supplication will be answered
A: This hadith is part of a hadith from 'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), and its wording is:
This verse was recited in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "O mankind, eat from what is on the earth lawful and good." Then Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah, call upon Allah to make me one whose supplication is answered. He said: O Sa'd, purify your food, and your supplication will be answered. By Him in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, a servant may throw a morsel of haram into his stomach, and his deeds will not be accepted for forty days. And any servant whose flesh grows from haram and riba (usury or interest), the Fire is more deserving of him.
He then made a mention of a person who travels widely, his hair disheveled and covered with dust. He lifts his hand towards the sky (and thus makes the supplication): "O Lord, O Lord," whereas his diet is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, and his clothes are unlawful and his nourishment is unlawful. How can then his supplication be accepted?
