Working to Secure the Future

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 19359 )
Q 1: Is it considered a defect in the Muslim's belief in divine decree and destiny for a working woman to say or believe: (that she works in order to secure her future and her children's future in case she is divorced or
her husband dies, for she does not know what matters the days will bring)? Is this considered a defect in the Muslim's belief in divine decree and destiny?

A 1: The Muslim believes in the decree and destiny of Allah, and that Allah wrote his provision when the soul was breathed into him in his mother's womb, and that his provision will come to him inevitably; for it is established from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) told us:
Indeed, one of you is gathered in creation in the womb of his mother until He says: Then Allah sends an angel with four words, so he writes his deed, his lifespan, his provision, and whether he is wretched or happyإن أحدكم يجمع خلقه في بطن أمه إلى قوله: ثم يبعث الله ملكًا بأربع كلمات، فيكتب عمله وأجله ورزقه وشقي أو سعيد
The hadith. And for what was narrated by Jabir ibn 'Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
O people, fear Allah and be moderate in seeking a living, for no soul will die until it has received all its provision, even if it is slow in coming. So fear Allah and be moderate in seeking provision; take that which is permissible and leave that which is forbidden.
Sunan Ibn Majah 2144Sahih (Darussalam)
It was narrated by Ibn Majah in (his Sunan, vol. 2, p. 725), and it was narrated by Ibn Hibban in (his Sahih). And believing in that and having faith in it does not contradict that a person strives to seek
provision and employs the lawful means to do so, while not relying on them and believing that the Provider, the Benefactor, and the Harmer is Allah alone (Glorified and Exalted is He). And what passes on the tongues of some people when they say: I secure my future or my children's future, these are the words used by one who exaggerates in relying on oneself, positions, and material things alone. The Muslim should avoid such words that defect in the perfection of his reliance upon Allah, and in the perfection of his hope in Allah and his fear of Him, and he should turn to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) and supplicate between His hands in hardship and ease, while taking the lawful means, as Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
