Q: Some people, when they finish the prayer, sit for a while, and before they rise from their place, they prostrate one prostration, long or short, without the closing salam. What is this prostration, and what is its ruling?
A: This prostration has no basis, so it must be abandoned; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 1718b . The prescribed prostration is only the prostration for recitation when the reciter passes a verse of prostration, or for gratitude upon the renewal of a blessing or the removal of a calamity, whether specific to the person or general to the Muslims. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.
