The ruling on combining the prayer and the salam in the invocation upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence! In the invocation upon our Prophet, is it obligatory to combine the prayer and the salam, or should each be left separate? For example, in the prayer of the tashahhud, we say: O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad,And we did not say: O Allah, send blessings and peace,And likewise in the hadith: (And whoever sends blessings upon me) He did not say: whoever sends blessings and peace?
It is not obligatory to combine the prayer and the salam in the invocation upon the Prophet; rather, a person may separate one from the other. For this reason, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught them the tashahhud, he mentioned the salam but did not mention the prayer. But combining them is better, by the saying of Allah the Exalted:
O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [Allah to grant him] peace.يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيماً
[Al-Ahzab: 56] As for its being obligatory, it is not obligatory.
