Supplication to an attribute of Allah (Mighty and Majestic)
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of fatwa number ( 15856 )
Q1: I request information regarding the saying of many people: “O Face of Allah, O Aid of Allah, O Status of Allah, O Lineage of Allah and Muhammad the Messenger of Allah.” Also, when they come to a sick person and find him with a high fever, they place their hands on his head and say: “O Messenger of Allah.”
A1: It is not permissible to supplicate to an attribute of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), such as saying: “O Face of Allah.” Rather, one should supplicate to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) and seek nearness to Him through His names and attributes, by saying: “O Merciful, have mercy on me; O Forgiver, forgive me.” As for the one who says: “O Face of Allah, O Aid of Allah,” and the like, it is not permissible; because the attributes are not supplicated to, rather the one described by them is supplicated to, and He is Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). As for the one who visits a sick person, places his hand on his head, and says: “O Messenger of Allah,” this saying is not permissible; rather, it is major shirk (associating partners with Allah); because it is supplication to other than Allah. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
