The first question of fatwa number ( 16816 )
Q1: In the southern region, we perform takbir on the day of 'Id in the mosque as follows: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar Kabiran, wa al-hamdu lillah kathiran, wa subhan Allahi wa bihamdihi bukratan wa asilan, la ilaha illa Allah wahdahu, sadaqa wa'dahu, wa a'azza jundahu, wa nasara 'abduhu, wa hazamal ahzaba wahdahu, la ilaha illa Allah la na'budu illa iyyahu mukhlisin lahu al-din wa law karihal kafirun, la ilaha illa Allah wa Allahu Akbar wa lillah al-hamd. Half of those in the mosque recite this, then the other half follows them, and so on until the prayer is established. However, the imam mentioned that collective takbir is not permissible and is an innovation. What is the ruling on this takbir?
A1: Takbir is prescribed on the night of 'Id al-Fitr and on the day of 'Id before and after the prayer until the end of the khutbah, and during the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah and the days of Tashriq. This is done by the Muslim reciting takbir for himself individually. As for collective takbir,
it is an innovation; because it is not reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 1718b . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
