The Shaykh’s remarks on the takbirat of the two festivals and his explanation of the status of the festivals with regard to them.

The Shaykh : Please, go ahead!

The questioner : Regarding the takbir in the festival prayer, I do not have takbir in the mosque even after the prayer. Does this mean I have forbidden the takbir to prevent them from takbir-ing with one another? I know there are narrations (athar) that it is permissible to takbir on the two festivals, but I forbid this takbir and tell them: until they practice the Sunnah in the coming, meaning outside the mosque.

The Shaykh : What I know is that the takbir on the two festivals differs, one from the other. The takbir on 'Id al-Fitr ends with the prayer, whereas the takbir for 'Id al-Adha is for the four days of the festival, all of which are places for takbir. Then, regarding this takbir: the Sunnah in it differs from the predominant Sunnah in dhikr, where the predominant Sunnah in dhikr is to keep it secret and not to make it loud. However, there are places where this Sunnah was excepted, and making it loud was legislated in them. Of this type are: the takbirat of the two festivals, with the distinction I mentioned earlier. That the takbir on 'Id al-Adha is on all four days of the festival, loudly and not secretly. But it is not from the Sunnah to specify [certain times].
