Celebrating the Qariqan Festival

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 15532 )
Q: It has become customary in the Gulf states and the eastern part of the Kingdom to hold a festival called "Al-Qariqan." This takes place in the middle of Ramadan or before it. Children used to go from house to house reciting songs, and people would give them sweets, nuts, or a little money. It used to have no specific rules or organization. However, nowadays, attention has been paid to it, and it has become a formal celebration in some locations, schools, and other places. It is no longer limited to children, and funds are now collected for it.
A: Celebrating the night of the fifteenth of Ramadan or any other night on the occasion of what is called the Al-Qariqan festival is a religious innovation (bid'ah) with no basis in Islam.
And every religious innovation (bid'ah) is misguidanceوكل بدعة ضلالة
Therefore, it must be abandoned and people must be warned against it. It is not permissible to hold it in any place, whether in schools, institutions, or elsewhere. What is prescribed in the nights of Ramadan, after attending to the obligatory duties, is to strive to stand in night prayer, recite the Qur'an, and make supplication. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
