The Hadith: "Majesty is my cloak and greatness is my robe"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 19346 )
Q 3: The hadith of Abu Hurayrah , attributed to the Prophet, in Muslim :
Pride is My cloak and greatness My robe, and whoever competes with Me with regard to either of them, I shall throw him into Hell.الكبرياء ردائي، والعظمة إزاري، فمن نازعني واحدًا منهما ألقيته في النار
Sunan Ibn Majah 4175Hasan (Darussalam)
. How should we understand this hadith? Is it permissible to attribute (the robe) and (the cloak) to Allah absolutely? And is it necessary to resort to figurative interpretation in this matter?

Vol. 3: Al-Khattabi (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his commentary on (Sunan Abu Dawud ): The meaning of the hadith is that majesty and greatness are two attributes of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), in which He is unique and no one shares with Him in them, and it is not befitting for a created being to assume them; for the attribute of the created being is humility and abasement, and he cited the cloak and the garment as an example of this. He says—and Allah knows best—just as a person does not allow anyone to share in his cloak and garment, so too I do not allow anyone to share with Me in majesty and greatness.
with a created being. And Allah knows best. This is the end of his words. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
